As part of the Sand Island revitalization effort, the new Sand Island West Pavilion is intended to be Bethlehem’s “showpiece pavilion,” as the largest structure of its kind in the City. Settled on the banks of the Lehigh River, the Pavilion will offer unobstructed skyline views up and down the waterway from the Observation Deck.
The Pavilion is designed using WPA-era design motifs including natural stone walls while integrating more modern materials and methods such as a metal roof, and cantilevered concrete observation deck. A covered seating area is designed to accommodate 120 occupants and includes a large traditional Rumford masonry fireplace. Additional amenities include bicycle storage (outside rental agency will bus people in), and bathrooms.
