With school fully back in session, we’re excited to spotlight the newly constructed South Hunterdon Regional Middle School in Lambertville! Earlier this month, the school welcomed 220 students for the 2025–2026 school year.
USA Architects was honored to celebrate alongside the South Hunterdon Regional School District (SHRSD) community at the ribbon cutting. The new middle school is the direct result of the steady growth of the district, which serves the communities of Lambertville, West Amwell, and Stockton. Now, fifth through eighth graders can all learn under one roof—bringing students together that were previously spread across two separate locations.
Inside, the middle school features bright and colorful spaces that spark creativity and collaboration in its 21 brand-new classrooms. “The middle school was designed with natural light in mind, with the use of curtain walls in the Media Center. The classrooms have great views of the countryside, and different colored corridors were used for wayfinding,” mentioned Project Manager and Architect, Carrie Zegarski. The cafeteria and music rooms include sound baffles to create a comfortable atmosphere with controlled acoustics.
“The Nook” is a multi-sensory room that encourages students to take breaks for their mental health. The new STEAM-focused classroom gives learners access to cutting-edge technology and resources for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Outdoors, the South Hunterdon Regional Eagles now have a brand-new basketball court and playground.

“This building is more than just block and mortar—it’s a physical representation of what we value: learning, exploration, opportunity, and community,” remarked Superintendent Andrew Suozzo at the ribbon cutting.
Much like the recently renovated South Hunterdon Regional Elementary School, which celebrated its ribbon cutting the summer of 2024, this project was made possible by the District’s 2021 referendum, which aimed to provide learning environments equipped with the right tools, technology, and safety measures to inspire growth.
It has been a privilege for our K12 Design Studio—in collaboration with our friends at Strunk Albert Engineering, MPP Engineers, Matrix New World, and Ernest Bock & Sons—to design and construct a space that encourages students to discover, connect, and prepare for the future. “Working on this project was a very rewarding experience, “said Carrie Zegarski. “From meeting with the staff to program and design each space, to finally seeing the building come to fruition, the journey was very gratifying. The feedback from the teachers and students have been very positive and that makes this project all worthwhile."
After having a couple weeks to experience their new learning space, some of the students shared their excitement by sending the team a few letters.
